Minnie Reid Young, 77, passed away Friday, November 2, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Stokes County, May 8, 1941 to the late James Noah and Mattie Stephens Reid. A 1959 graduate of Walnut Cove High School, she married Robert Lloyd Young on August 26, 1961. Minnie Grey worked as a secretary at Piedmont Publishing Company and Hanes Brands (L’eggs). She began her second career in 2005 as a van driver for JD Cruises and Tours. Mrs. Young was a member of Northview Primitive Baptist Church and loved to travel. She was a lifelong Republican and a member of the Stokes County Republicans Women’s Club. Minnie Grey is survived by three daughters: Kelly Lintner (Nelson), Tracy Cheek (Howard) both of Walnut Cove and Stephanie Nesslehaus (Mark) of Supply, NC. She has three grandchildren: Chelsea Barfield (Dakota), Frankie Lintner, and Robby Cheek; and three great-grandchildren: Arianna “Doodle Bug” Barfield, Braxton Barfield, and Garrison Miller, which were the lights of her life. Minnie Grey also is survived by two brothers, Norman Reid (Una) of Walnut Cove, NC, and Jim Reid (Lib) of Knoxville, TN; two sisters, Pauline Styers of Winston-Salem, NC, and Elizabeth “Sis” Mabe of Walnut Cove, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, James Mabe and John Styers; niece, Jilda Styers; and great-niece, Jennifer Shumaker Pack. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 7 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with burial following at First Baptist Church of Walnut Cove Cemetery.
