Mitchell "Mitch" Hartman, 63, of Clemmons, North Carolina, passed away peacefully following an evening surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, June 21, 2025, after a courageous year long battle with cancer.
Mitch was born on October 28, 1961, in Forsyth County, North Carolina, to the late Jack Alexander Hartman and Elizabeth Cain Hartman.
A dedicated engineer by trade, Mitchell was extremely detail oriented and wildly creative. He inspired many peers with his strong work ethic. An avid cyclist, he found solace and freedom on winding trails along the banks of the New River. His life long Christian faith guided his gentle spirit, while his quiet kindness left lasting impressions on everyone he met. Mitch lived his values through simple, purposeful dedication to his craft and community. He cherished animals as faithful companions. His most cherished companion and feline friend, Nickels, who predeceased Mitchell last year, was missed until his final day.
Mitch is survived by his devoted cousin Donna Brown, Vern Leonard, his aunts Bobbie Berrier and Mary Linda Garrison, other family members, and friends who were as close as kin and cared for him deeply. He joins his beloved parents in eternal rest.
The family extends profound gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Trellis Hospice, whose expertise brought comfort in difficult days. They also thank the many friends and relatives whose unwavering presence became Mitch's greatest strength during his battle.
Mitchell held Psalm 23 close to his heart: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
A celebration of Mitch's life will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Funeral, Home RFMC building, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
