Mrs. Monica Schlegel Chriscoe, of Winston-Salem, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
Monica was born in Valley View, Pennsylvania, the eldest of four siblings. She continued to visit and keep in touch with her life long best friends; Sandy Lucas, Ruthann Flannery, and Linda Moyer from school even after moving to NC in her early 20’s.She built a meaningful career in banking and later dedicated many years of service at Wake Forest Medical Center. Beyond her professional work, Monica devoted her time and heart to her church community. A lifelong member of Pinedale Christian Church, she especially loved serving in the nursery, caring for children and sharing her faith.
Her talents were many, but one of her greatest gifts was crocheting. With kindness and compassion, Monica created blankets and items for the homeless and for babies in the hospital, touching lives in ways both small and profound. She cherished gatherings with friends, always bringing warmth and joy to those around her.
Family was at the center of Monica’s life. She looked forward each year to the beloved family beach trip, treasuring every moment spent together. A highlight of her life was her trip to South Africa, where she delighted in the beauty, culture, and memories she carried back home to share.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Jamie Chriscoe, and her sister, Carol Johnston.
She is survived by her husband, Sam, her daughter, Melanie Peters (Mark), her sister, Debra Shearer, her brother, Bill Schlegel, and her grandchildren: Shyann, Jada, and Alex.
She also has numerous sister and brother-in-laws, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Monica’s love, laughter, and generosity will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. She will remain forever in our hearts.
Hayworth Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the family.
