Mr. Coy Walter Stevens, 87, passed away at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home on January 26, 2014. He was born February 24, 1926 in Montgomery County, NC to the late James Walter and Ada Mabe Stevens and was the youngest of ten children. Mr. Stevens was a veteran of the US Navy and served in World War II. During the war, Mr. Stevens served on the USS Shea and lost many fellow servicemen when his ship took a direct enemy hit. Mr. Stevens retired from Bahnson Company after thirty nine years of service. He was a faithful member of the Konnoak Baptist church, where he served as a deacon and head usher. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Betty Burgess Stevens and a daughter-in-law, Terri Stevens. Surviving are his daughter, Linda Miller (John) and son, Tim Stevens; four grandchildren, Holly Groce (Michael), Zach Miller (Anna), Lauren Smith (Jon), and Bret Stevens (Jennifer) as well as thirteen great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller on Silas Creek from 6:30-8:00 pm on Monday, January 27, 2014. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday at Parklawn Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be held in the Parklawn Mausoleum Chapel at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B.
