Mr. Willis McCoy Gobble

Mr. Willis McCoy Gobble, 94, passed away on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2013. He was born in Davie County on December 13, 1918 to the late Willis Vestal Gobble and Flossie Lanier Gobble. He served 4 years in the Navy during WWII and made four trips on the SS King S Woolsey. Willis owned and operated Gobble's Grocery for more than 30 years. He enjoyed horseback riding, Thursday night roping events held in his arena, tending to his cows, working in his garden, fishing and spending time at High Rock Lake. If you have ever driven down Griffith Road I am sure you received a wave from him as you went by. He always enjoyed sitting in his front yard and just watching the cars pass, throwing up his hand to most everyone. Willis was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Ellie Cook Gobble; six brothers, Irvin, Felix, J.B., Ottis, Howard and Virgle Gobble; two sisters, Zula Meadows and Mavis Peoples. Surviving are his two devoted sons and his loyal daughter-in-law, Doug Gobble and Jimmy (Sandra) Gobble; three loving grandchildren, Randy (Sharon Simon) Gobble, Lori (Jeff) Johnson and Michelle (Erik) Mitchell; three great granddaughters who always put a smile on his face, Hayley and Makenley Mitchell and Caroline Johnson; one brother, Clarence Gobble and one sister, Betty Rice. Funeral services for our beloved Daddy and Papaw will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. J.B. Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Go rest high on that mountain Papaw, your work on earth is done. We love you.
