Mrs. Patricia “Pat” Zminkowski Rehder

Mrs. Patricia ""Pat"" Zminkowski Rehder passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2012. She was born on May 16, 1923 in Central Falls, Rhode Island. However, most of her growing up years were spent on Long Island, NYC. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Rehder. She is survived by her four children, sons, Joe (Shirley), Paul (Barbara), David (Margaret) and daughter Sallie Serosky (Mark); six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. After 40 years , Pat retired from nursing. She was a graduate of Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing in NYC. After graduation, she enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps in 1944. She met her husband John while they were in the service. After the war, he brought Pat to his home state of North Carolina. Her career and love was always in Public Health Nursing. She worked in the Roanoke, VA Health Department as well as the Forsyth County Health Department. She was Assistant Director of Nursing at Medical Park Hospital and Director of Discharge Planning and Infection Control. She was very proud of helping to establish the Association for Practitioners of Infection Control in NC in 1972. She was a charter member and president in 1977. After retirement, she volunteered at Reynolda House Museum and The Little Theater. Her love of books led her to establish small bookshops in Wilmington and Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be held 5:00PM Friday, August 17, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Dr. Don Murray officiating. The family will receive friends following the service from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Memorial Sloan-Kettering, P.O. Box 27106, New York, NY 10087-7106. The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care and friendship provided to their mother by Kay Belcher and Mary Davis.
