God called one of His faithful home on Tuesday August 19, 2025. Nancy Cody Blanton passed away in Kernersville, NC in the late morning. Nancy or “Nannie” to the multiple generations of the family that she helped raise was the closest thing to a human embodiment to God’s agape love as any of us can hope to know. There is no doubt in the mind of the family that she is now with Jesus forever. The family draws a great sense of peace in that knowledge. Nancy was like a 2nd mother to 3 generations of the Cody & Thompson families. She joyfully held many babies on her hip as the years went by. She is preceded in death by her husband, Shannon Blanton; her mother, Martishie Cody; her sister, Pauline (Fred); her brothers, Robert (Rachel), and Albert (Lorece); brother-in-law, Wayne; and niece, Gale. Nancy is survived by her sister, Minnie; nieces and nephews, Janice (Terry), Linda (Alan), Vicki (Dan), Phillip (Jen), Karen, Terry (Brenda), Randall, and Albert Jr (Cindy). She is also survived by a plethora of great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews, who are dearly beloved and will miss her greatly. We truly were blessed with her life for almost 88 years.
Nancy lived a humble, loving and graceful life. She exuded joy, love and grace. She found joy in the little things and was quick with a bright smile that always shined in her eyes. She was always the one to make sure the kids had new school clothes and shoes. She would run to the Dairy Queen in the summer for a cool treat on the hot and sometimes long days at the family print shop. She would also allow herself to be conned into runs to Sonic from time to time also. Nancy loved to cook and was renowned for her Thanksgiving dressing recipe, and Chex Party mix. Though she stopped cooking full meals long ago she kept a kitchenette in the house where she could still prepare simple things for herself until shortly before she passed.
The family extends deepest gratitude to Nancy’s long time caregiver Mary Ellen Malone & hairdresser Kim Parker. They treated her with as much love and kindness as if they were her very own.
