Nancy Campbell Ritz Brawley peacefully passed away on March 14, 2018.
The first of four children from the union of Allan DeWitt Campbell and Francis Ford Patterson Campbell, Nancy was born June 2, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio. After graduating from Ottawa Hills High School, she attended Ohio Wesleyan University where she was a proud member of Delta Gamma Sorority.
In 1953 Nancy married Jack Reynolds Ritz, a Toledo native whose work transplanted the couple to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Nancy spent her first decade in the Twin City focused on raising three baby-boomers. She found time to be an active member of the Winston-Salem Junior Women's Club, Pine Brook Country Club, three bridge clubs, and a bowling league. In 1966, Nancy began working part-time as a medical office administrator. Following the untimely death of her husband in 1974, she began a 19-year career working for the newly created Family Practice Department of Bowman Gray School of Medicine. She always cherished the special relationships with her co-workers, the medical students, resident doctors, and department head Dr. Julian Keith.
In 1983 Nancy married James O. "Jim" Brawley. It was during this marriage that Nancy developed her enthusiasm for tennis, as she and Jim played together regularly until his death in 2003. As she became less active physically, Nancy found joy in watching the performances of talented singers, dancers, and athletes. She was especially proud of the talents and accomplishments of her four grandchildren.
Left to cherish the memory of Nancy's loving heart and sweet disposition are her son Jeff Ritz (Gary Gidley), daughter Denise Ritz Gregory (Rick), and son Doug Ritz. She also is survived by her four grandchildren Raleigh Bame (Rodney), Braden Gregory (Laura Beth Enos), Suzanna Ritz, and Jackson Ritz; her great grandchildren Barron Bame, Bennett Bame, Cecelia Gregory, and Roseleigh Gregory; her sisters Joan Johnson and Linda Chappell, a brother Allan D. "Bud" Campbell (Kathy), and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private memorial ceremony will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at a later date, with arrangements by Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 520 Summit Street, Winston-Salem 27101, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
The family would like to thank the staff of Bermuda Village and Hospice & Palliative Care for their superb support.
