Nancy Smith

Nancy Carroll Smith, age 92 of Winston-Salem, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 16, 2023. She was born January 10,1931 in Forsyth County to Rober Lee and Nell Jones Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Waymouth Daton (Bill) Smith; sister, Barbara Smith Byrd; brother in law, Jorge David Reyes, sister in law Doris H. Smith and nephew, Gregory Daton Smith.

Nancy grew up in Sedge Garden and Kernersville area. After graduating high school, she attended Anderson Junior College earning an Associate Degree in Art. She was employed in Winston-Salem, California and Washington, D.C. Her early working years were spent between North Carolina and California. She began her career in Washington, D.C. in 1969 and retired from there in 1995. Her years were spent as a Congressional Staff Assistant for Wilmer D. Mizell, M.C. and Stephen L. Neal, M.C. She returned to Winston-Salem and enjoyed many years traveling, baking and enjoying her church activities.

Nancy loved to travel and spent time with her sisters, sister in law and friends at the beach, mountains and boating trips at Lake James. She also enjoyed traveling with her church group on mission trips to Bolivia. She was a devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted. Some of her church involvement was a UMW Circle leader, UMW Special Mission Recognition Award, Local, National and International Missions and Disciple Bible Study classes.

Nancy is survived by, sister Harriett Smith Reyes; niece Cindy Smith Miller (Frank), nephews, David Reyes (Mike), Michael Reyes (Janet), and Christopher Byrd. Many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews and many loving friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at Hayworth Miller Silas Creek Chapel 4:00 pm Thursday, February 23, 2023 with Rev. Craig Ford officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
