Nancy Collins

Mrs. Nancy Fritz Collins, 73, of Advance, NC, passed away on May 5, 2019, at Salemtowne Retirement Community in Winston-Salem, NC. Mrs. Collins was born on September 7, 1945, in Hickory, NC, to the late Dr. John R. and Mary Self Fritz. Mrs. Collins was raised in Hickory, NC, and was a 1963 graduate of Claremont High School and a 1967 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne University. She was a retired elementary school teacher in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system and a former member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Hickory, NC, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius, NC, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilmington, NC. She was a devoted sister, wife, and mother, who exhibited a level of concern for others above herself that is matched in few individuals. She enjoyed her pets, gardening, and adored her granddaughters. She was a kind and loving grandmama to Jenna and Sarah, who will miss her very much. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 35 years, Chuck Collins. Surviving are one son, John (wife Amy) of Winston-Salem, NC; two granddaughters, Jenna Collins and Sarah Collins of Winston-Salem, NC; three sisters, Mary Anne Nixon of Chapel Hill, NC, Brenda Davis of Simpsonville, SC, and Betty Warren of Boca Raton, FL; and numerous other nieces and nephews that are special and loved. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Augsburg Lutheran Church, 845 West Fifth Street in Winston-Salem with Rev. Paul Wollner and Rev. Lori Carter officiating. A reception will be held following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Forsyth Humane Society, 4881 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel will be assisting the family.
