Mrs. Nancy Miller Culp, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2026, at Arbor Acres. Born October 25, 1941, in Albemarle, NC, Nancy was the only child of the late Odessa Pickler and Harvey Jones Miller of Misenheimer, NC. In June of 1962, she married Dan Culp whom she had learned through a long-standing friendship between their fathers who were classmates at Pfeiffer College in the thirties.
In 1962 she graduated with honors from Pfeiffer University with a BA degree in English, art and education. During the 60’s, Mrs Culp studied for her Master’s Degree at Wake Forest University and worked as an industrial editor and writer for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. While her children were small she worked as a free-lance writer for local newspapers, including THE SENTINEL and CLEMMONS COURIER.
In the 1970’s she began a 22 year career as the Newspaper in Education Coordinator for the Winston-Salem Journal where her work with schools took her into classrooms throughout northwest North Carolina. In 2000, an eighteen-month struggle with cancer forced Mrs. Culp to retire early.
For more than 60 years she and her husband were active members of Centenary United Methodist Church. In retirement, her hobbies included genealogy, and she became an active member of the Colonel Joseph Winston Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Nancy is survived by son, Chris Culp, Sr (Kathy) and daughter, Anne Fleeson (Will); as well as her beloved grandchildren, Chris Culp, Jr., Nathan Culp (Addy), Mackenzie Culp, and Lillianna Fleeson; and great granddaughters, Ellis and Sloane Culp.
Family members would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Arbor Acres for her exceptional care.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, 46963 Wesley Chapel Rd., Misenheimer, NC 28109 with the Rev. Dr. Dixon Kinser officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
