Nancy Idol

Mrs. Nancy Mildred Payne Idol, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Summerstone Health and Rehab in Kernersville, NC. Nancy was born on September 24, 1926, in Jamestown, NC. She was the eldest daughter of the late Alfred Keiffer Payne and Grace Davis Payne. Nancy was a graduate of Hanes High School, studied business and worked in retail prior to her marriage to Rex Idol, who survives. Other survivors include her children, Nancy Southern (Ted) of Stokesdale, Kathryn I. Richardson (Mark) of Stokesdale, Emily I. Simmons of Colfax, and Joseph A. Idol of Kernersville. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her sister, Jean P. Surratt and her son-in-law, Phillip C. Simmons.
Nancy was a charter member of the Ladies Auxillary of VFW Post 5352 in Kernersville, NC. She enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, painting, doll-making, ceramics, reading, and extensive travel throughout the U.S., parts of Canada, Europe, Bermuda, Panama, and the Caribbean.
Nancy was a member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church and was active in the Sunshine Circle until her health declined.
A graveside service for Nancy will be conducted by the Rev. David Rorie at Bunker Hill Cemetery on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 1:30 pm. The family will greet friends at the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall following the service. They wish to thank the staff of Kerner Ridge and Summerstone for the loving care given to Nancy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church Multi-Media Renovation Fund or one's favorite charity.
