Nancy was born on September 12, 1932 to Hugh Zebedee and Stella Dillon Ingram in Kernersville, North Carolina and passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026 in Enid, Oklahoma. Nancy lived the first 88 years of her life on Kerner Road in Kernersville. She graduated from Kernersville High School, class of 1950 and married Estil Denver Idol on August 6, 1950. In 1956 they moved “up the road” from her childhood home to a new home built by Estil. Together they raised three children, Sammy, Lawana, and Kerilea.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Lawana Idol Newell (Douglas), daughter-in-law Jan Idol, grandchildren Chad Idol (Devin), Kristie Idol (Gary Northen), Lauren Newell Griffin (Kevin), Lindsey Newell Johnson (Ryan), Leslie Newell Greer (Richard), and Christian Newell (Dallas); great-grandchildren Jackson Northen, Dillon Northen, Dane Griffin, Kyra Griffin, Harry Kirk-Idol, James Greer, and Lilith Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Estil, a son, Sammy, and daughter, Kerilea.
Music held a special place in Nancy’s life and she passed her love of music to her family. That love became a profession for her daughter Lawana and a lasting gift to her grandchildren. Nancy worked most of her adult life at the family furniture store, Hugh Z. Ingram Inc. After her father’s passing, she continued to keep the business going with the help of her husband, Estil and son, Sammy. She could almost always be found there running the store or sewing curtains and draperies for customers’ homes. After Sammy’s passing, the business was closed and Nancy moved to Enid, Oklahoma to be near her daughter.
Nancy loved people and especially children. She loved teaching young children in Sunday School and carefully made “flanagraph” stories which were Bible stories told with characters made out of colorful flannel material. She was very active in Bunker Hill United Methodist Church participating in many activities throughout her life including the adult choir and handbell choir.
After moving to Oklahoma, Nancy made many friends at The Arbors in Enid, where she lived and was cared for by the wonderful staff. Memorials may be made to Bunker Hill United Methodist Church in Kernersville, NC.
A celebration of life will be held for Nancy Idol at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, 1510 Bunker Hill Sandy Ridge Road, Kernersville, NC. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 7, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
