Nan Vernon, 90 years old, wife of deceased husband Isaac Luther Vernon Jr., went home to be with the Lord on June 13, 2018, at her residence in Winston-Salem, NC, surrounded by her beloved family.
Born May 11th, 1928, in King, NC, Nan was the daughter of the predeceased Willie Matt and Mary Anna Reid Priddy. She was a graduate of King High School and from nurses training at City Memorial Hospital. Nan reared her family of five boys and then picked up her career becoming assistant head nurse at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. She retired from the medical department of Hanes Brands in Winston-Salem, NC.
Nan was a faithful member for fourteen years at the Berean Baptist Church but also taught faithfully a woman's Sunday School class called "Willing Workers" at Gospel Light Baptist and Rolling Height Faith Baptist Church. Reading her Bible, listening to the BBN Radio station, watching Jeopardy and doing crossword puzzles were Nan's favorite past times.
Nan is survived by her five sons, Bill and his wife Katie of Pearl River, LA; and his twin Matt of Raleigh, NC; Bobby and his wife Connie of Lexington, NC; Mark and his wife Kay of Midway, NC; Wayne and his wife Sue of Gray Court, SC. Also, predeceased by her 6 siblings, Nan's remaining sibling is Ann Williard and her husband Robert Williard, and her sister-in-law Erlene Priddy. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren who lovingly called her "Mom Vernon".
Visitation is at the Hayworth Miller Funeral Home 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC, on Friday, June 15, 2018, at 10:00 AM with the service to follow at 12:00 PM. A graveside service 2 at p.m. will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 3250 High Point Road, Winston-Salem, NC.
