Neil Rush

On the night of October 11, 1981, Neil Andrew Rush was born in Waynesburg, PA to Nancy Hurd (Rush) Sampson and Dwight Mark Rush.

On the night of August 20, 2019, he was called to rest while doing what he loved…. Riding a recreational vehicle near his home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Neil was a larger than life character who loved his family and friends, drawing many people to himself with his magnanimous heart, interesting stories, home spun humor and unique perspectives and world view.

He was wise beyond his years and could always be counted on to tell the truth.

Neil overcame many obstacles to become a talented, educated and truly self-made man.

He was the sole proprietor of a successful hardwood floor company, “Salem Hardwoods”, in Winston-Salem.

Together, he and his devoted life partner Stephanie Ellen Light, were creating a beautiful homestead for themselves and their beloved daughter, Cora Adelyn Rush, who was his heart and inspiration.

In addition to Stephanie and Cora, he is survived by his mother, Nancy Hurd Sampson of Blowing Rock, NC; his loving sister, Rebecca (Daniel) Klein of Asheville, NC; a nephew, Owen, son of Rebecca and Daniel; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Neil was preceded in death by his father, Dwight Mark Rush; his paternal grandparents, Ed and Madolyn Rush; maternal grandfather Robert Joseph Hurd; and his beloved cousin and friend, Shana Tai Rush.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial donations be made to a fund that will be set up for Neil’s daughter Cora. Please contact the family for details.
