Nellie Buie Vanhoy

Nellie Elizabeth Buie Vanhoy, 90, fell asleep quietly on December 28, 2016 surrounded by family. Born September 5, 1926, she was the daughter of Walter Ray and Mae Fleming Buie. A homemaker most of her life, raised two children along with the love of her life, Daniel Woodrow, who entered Heaven in 1977. Along with raising her two children, she loved many more as she and ""Woody"" volunteered in many events and programs in which Larry and Judy participated. She also was a floral designer for several years and helped many a customer at Rapers of Spencer in her later years. She is survived by her children, Larry (Judy) and Judy Vanhoy Moore (Gerald); three grandchildren, Tina V. Davis (Gary), Teresa V. Weavil (Scott), and Dana M. Engdahl (Bryon),; eight great-grandchildren, Matthew, Garrett, Jacob, Krista, Shelby, Lauren, Ryleigh, and Paige. From a large family, she is also survived by her sister, Bonnie B. Byerly and her brothers, Henry Lee Buie and Terry (Sue) Buie. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy; her brothers, H. Thomas ""Bill"" and Donald Buie. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, many cousins, Nieces, nephews, wonderful neighbors, and Pogo, her faithful companion. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 31, 2016 Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. John Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
