Nelson Gray Hardy

Mr. Nelson Gray Hardy, 84, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on September 20, 1929 in Surry County to John Hardy and Bessie Simpson Hardy. Mr. Hardy was a member of Beck's Baptist Church where he served as deacon, on the finance committee, and in the Sunday school office. He and his wife Betty volunteered for Meals on Wheels, for the Cancer Society, and for The Shepherd's Center. He and Betty also enjoyed going on bus tours where they visited 49 states and Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Cecil Hardy; three sisters, Mildred Long, Dorothy Norman, and Bonita Hauser. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty S. Hardy of the home; one son, Rick Hardy and his wife Jane; granddaughter, Mary Kathryn Washington and husband Yancey; two great grandchildren, James and Emma Louise Washington; two brothers, Wayne Hardy and wife Lou Nell, John D. Hardy and wife Bonnie; one sister, Glenda Evans and husband Richard. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00PM on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Beck's Baptist Church with Dr. Karl Minor and Rev. Bobby Vaughan officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. Memorials may be made to Beck's Baptist Church, 5505 Becks Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
