Jenell Hensley Doss

Born November 4, 1931 to Augusta Ross and Delphia Mae Hensley, Jenell lived a life rooted in devotion—to her family, her church, and most importantly, her Savior. A faithful Christian, she dedicated her life to loving Christ and sharing that love with everyone around her. She was a longtime member of Northside Baptist Church, where she remained active for many decades, a steady and shining presence in her church family.

Jenell was the cherished wife of Billy Edward Doss, with whom she shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, and family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always putting her family first and creating a home filled with warmth and care.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky Bowen; her grandchildren Kenny Edward Westmoreland (Tracy), Jody Ross Westmoreland (Beth), Mark David Spence, Elizabeth Jenell Campbell (Aaron), Michael Dean Ridge, Apryl Spence Roland (David), and Luke Spence (Brad); as well as her great-grandchildren Mason, Logan, Ruby, and many others who brought her immense joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Edward Doss; her children Phillip David Doss and Ellen Dell Doss Spence Jenkins; and her siblings Pauline Elizabeth McDonald (Tom), David Lewis Hensley (Minnie), and Irene Eva Lee Helms. Jenell worked faithfully for 37 years at NC Baptist Hospital, where she served with dedication and kindness.

Known for her classy style, Jenell rarely missed a Sunday without one of her beautiful big hats, always dressed with elegance and grace. She had a deep love for gardening and found great joy among her flowers, tending to them as her health allowed. Her garden was a reflection of her spirit—colorful, vibrant, and full of life.

She also had a sweet tooth and never turned down a good sweet treat, something her family will always smile about. And if you ever found yourself behind her on the road, you knew she believed in following the speed limit exactly—no more, no less—often with a line of cars trailing behind her. It was just one of the many endearing quirks that made her so unforgettable. Above all, Jenell will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her gentle heart, and the love she poured into her family. She lived her life as a reflection of Christ, and her legacy will continue to bloom in the lives of those she touched—just like the flowers she loved so dearly. Her family rejoices in knowing she is now whole, at peace, and in the presence of her Lord and Savior.

There will be a funeral service conducted 10:00 Monday, March 23, 2026 at Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Hicks Officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00, March 22, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel.
