Nina Mae Owens

Mrs. Nina Mae Bailey Owens, 100, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2018, surrounded by her family.   She was born in Stanton, VA on October 28, 1918.  Mrs. Owens was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and pianist.  She loved and cherished her church family.  Mrs. Owens’ children and grandchildren were her entire world.  She loved gardening, cooking, baking, poetry, and playing the piano.  Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Dee Owens; daughter, Carol Annette Owens; and son, David Lee Owens.  She is survived by three children: Susan Owens Chatman (John), Leonard Owens (Lisa), and Samuel Dee Owens, Jr.; special friends, Larry and Mary Hull; daughter-in-law, Ann Leonard (Lindy); nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  A graveside service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 3, at Forsyth Memorial Park with Dr. Brad Stamey officiating.  There will be no formal visitation.
