Mrs. Norma Jean Leonard, 80, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born August 25, 1936 in Forsyth County, the daughter of Elzey and Ada Lashmit Speaks. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Church of the Living God, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a choir member. Jean continued to minister to anyone who called on her day or night. Many were touched by her compelling love and compassion for all people. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arville ""Buddy"" Leonard: her daughter, Lou Tilley and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include two sons, Tommy Leonard and wife, Regina and Jamie Leonard; a daughter, Theresa Thompson; a brother, Jack Speaks and wife, Dot; three sisters, Helen Wynn, Edith Sprinkle and Doris Kiser; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon Monday, May 15, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Revs. Dickie Mathis and John F. Fry officiating. Entombment will follow in Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Kate B.
