Ms. Norma Morris Long, 84, of Winston-Salem, NC, joined her heavenly father Thursday, November 3, 2016. She was born in Forsyth County on October 15, 1932, to the late Charles and Elsie Morris. After graduating from Rural Hall High School in 1951, she went to work for Hennis Freight Lines where she met and later married Percy J. Long. They were blessed with three children. Norma volunteered at Sherwood Forest Elementary School which led to a career with the Forsyth County School System. She served as Registrar at R.J. Reynolds High School for over 25 years before retiring in 1997. Because she loved working, she embarked upon a second career as Licensing Manager at Savers Marketing Corporation until she was 79 years old. Norma was a devoted and active member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. When not attending church, she could be found reading the newspaper and mastering the daily Cryptoquote and Jumble. She loved watching Hallmark movies and enjoying a good ballgame featuring her beloved Demon Deacons. Norma loved animals and enjoyed taking care of her furry children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the mother of her beloved grandchildren, Kathy Long. She is survived by her children, Dr. Michael Long (Cindy) of Chattanooga, TN, Larry Long of Richmond, VA and Lori Thompson(Todd) of Kernersville, NC; two grandchildren, Ryan Long of Nashville, TN and Megan Long (world traveler); siblings, Mary Hiatt of Winston-Salem, Peggy Morris of Winston-Salem and David Morris of Greenville, NC along with many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Tim Wolfe and Rev. Leon Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The William Tab Center-Senior Services, Inc., 231 Melrose St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or The Almost Home Group, 111 Circle Dr., Thomasville, NC 27361.
