Norma Stikeleather

Norma Elizabeth Ervin Stikeleather died on, Monday, May 28, 2018.

She was born June 22, 1938 in Charlotte, NC. Her parents were Norman Thomas Ervin and Mildred Irene McManus Ervin. In November 1966 Norma married her best friend and the love of her life, Thomas Garner Stikeleather. She then devoted herself to supporting her husband's career and making a home and raising their children at duty stations all over the world, wherever the US Navy sent them.

Norma went with her husband to Naval stations in Pensacola, FL. Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines, Norfolk, VA. Naples, Italy, Washington, DC, Territory of Guam, and Chesapeake, VA, before retiring to Kernersville, NC in 1987. When possible, Norma worked with the children's and youth programs at each base as well as being on staff of the Navy Relief Society in Washington and the Tidewater Group Home Commission in Chesapeake. She led a busy life, but always found time to volunteer at their children's school or to coach softball or to chaperone a field trip.

In Kernersville, Norma joined First Presbyterian Church where she served on several committees and as treasurer of the church for several years. She was also an elder of the church.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Tom; and is survived by two beloved daughters, Thomasina Lackey (Keith) of Waxhaw, NC and Cynthia Lilly (Barry) of Tampa, FL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 1, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Pruitt officiating with interment following at 2:00 PM in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, where she will lay beside her husband. Memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 611 Oakhurst St., Kernersville, NC, 27284.
