Norma Jean Stewart Williamson, affectionately known as “Susie,” passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was 77 years old.
Born on January 20, 1948, to the late Kathleen Weaver Clayton and Lester Stewart, Susie was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem before retiring to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Susie dedicated much of her life to caring for others—as a talented hairdresser and a school bus driver for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. She was a devoted member of Crestview Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. After retirement, she moved to Ocean Lakes Family Campground, where she quickly became known as “The Mayor,” loved for her long porch conversations and warm spirit.
She enjoyed the simple joys of life: playing bingo, baking cakes, frying potatoes, making her famous hot dogs, and keeping “her” street clean.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, Emory “Dewitt” Williamson.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Michelle Lail (Randy) of Kernersville, NC, and Tammy Fletcher (Brian) of Kernersville, NC; brother, Alan Stewart (Nancy) of Salisbury, NC; sister, Jill Clayton of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren, Tiffany Tilley, Kayla Wydysh, Ali Avery, TJ Childress, Zach Williamson, Ashlei Fletcher, and Jacob Fletcher; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 3250 High Point Road, Winston-Salem, NC. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the cemetery.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trellis Supportive Care at www.trellissupport.org.
Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is honored to be assisting the Williamson family.
