Mr. Norman B McPherson, 83, passed away on February 5, 2016, in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He was born on January 28, 1933, to Oscar and Grace McPherson. Norman is survived by his wife, Gloria, the love of his life for 33 years. He knew how unbelievably blessed he was to have earned the love and devotion of this great woman. Norman and Gloria enjoyed traveling together and made many wonderful trips full of memories. Norman's friends and family knew him to have a quiet intellect. Norman was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 35. The ravages of this disease increasingly took its toll on his body. Norm never complained and never acknowledged his physical limitations as a handicap. He displayed unbelievable levels of patience and perseverance, willing his body to continue far beyond what his doctors believed humanly possible. It was this will to live that was his most remarkable trait. Norman served his country during World War II in the Navy. He enjoyed a successful career in public service. He rose to the level of Regional Administrator for the National Transportation and Safety Administration. One of his greatest accomplishments was his direct contribution to our nation's passage of car safety-belt laws. In retirement Norman pursued his love of building and flying remote controlled airplanes. He spent time on the airfields with other model airplane enthusiasts, helped new-comers learn the ropes, and organized what became the region's largest model airplane swap-meet. Norman is also survived by his son, Bruce McPherson; daughters, Jill McPherson, Leslie Crocker, Jennifer McPherson; stepdaughters, Pat Blair and Cindy McManus; stepson, Randy Meadows; and his many grandchildren. His family is privately celebrating his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Forsyth Humane Society, 61 Miller St., Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the McPherson family.
