Mrs. Odessa Frye Rhoades, 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on September 9, 1929 in Forsyth County to Claude Allen and Sophia Freeman Frye. Odessa retired from RJR Tobacco after many years of service. She was a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling and spending time at the beach and she loved to dance. Odessa was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Odessa was preceded in death by her husband, W.O. “Bill” Bernard; two children; three grandchildren; one brother and two sisters.
She is survived by four children, Clifton Bernard (Debby), Billie Grimes (Jerry), Jill Holley (Phil), and Tami Simmons (David); nine grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; one sister, Alta Mabe; one brother, Bucky Frye; and her husband, Charles B. Rhoades.
A graveside service for Odessa will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Oaklawn Gardens of Memory with Pastor Jason Holley officiating and Bucky Frye will conduct the closing prayer. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
