Mrs. Odrie Bowling Thurlo, age 91 of Mocksville, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at her home of over 50 years with her family by her side. She was born January 11, 1934 in Salem, VA. to Oswell Cooper Bowling and Ocie Poff Bowling.
Miss Odrie was the founder of Macedonia Moravian Preschool. Over 40 years ago, she followed a calling to create a preschool as a mission of the church, one rooted in faith, love, and service. Thanks to her vision, generations of children have had a place to grow, learn and feel deeply cared for. Her legacy lives on in every child who walks through the doors.
She was preceded in death by husband of 55 years, Emmett Hugh Thurlo, Jr. Odrie is also preceded in death by 7 brothers and a sister, Albert, Cephas, Jack, Dennis, George, Melvin and Lewis, and her sister and best friend Veta.
She is survived by one daughter, Connie Ellis (Jr.); two sons, Tim Thurlo (Donna) and Chad Thurlo (Lisa); seven grandchildren, Marsha McKnight (Mark), Jeremy Ellis (Amanda), Kami Ellis, Ali Moore (Taylor), Trevor Thurlo, Hunter Thurlo and Gray Thurlo; six great grandchildren, Maggie McKnight, Max McKnight, Aiden Wagner, Grayson Moore, Claire Moore and Addilyn Ellis and one great-great granddaughter, Brynleigh McKnight, and a sister, Nancee Lee.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 10, 2025 at Cornerstone Christian Church by Pastor Kevin Frack. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Farmington Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Macedonia Moravian Preschool. Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel is serving the family.
