Mr. Oscar Curtis ""Curt"" Simmons, 87, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Simmons was born in Yadkin County on December 9, 1929, to the late Oscar Burton Simmons and Pauline Martin Simmons. Curt served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church in Clemmons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Merritt Simmons; a daughter, Vicki Simmons; and one sister, Martha Brown. Curt is survived by his son, Mark Curtis Simmons and wife, Julie of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Olivia Simmons Doyle and husband, Tracy of Pfafftown, NC; three grandchildren, Alexander Simmons of Winston-Salem, Jonathan Simmons and wife, Megan of Charlotte, NC, and Matthew Doyle of Pfafftown, NC; one sister, Louise Shore and husband, George of Raleigh, NC; and numerous other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at College Park Baptist Church with Rev. Ramon Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Curt was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, 718 N. Trade St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the family of Mr. Simmons.
