Owen Troy Horton,Sr.

Mr. Owen Troy Horton, Sr., lovingly called ""Granddaddy"" 83, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born October 1, 1930 in Surry county, the son of the late, Troy Edgar and Alice Seal Horton. Mr. Horton was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. He served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Kernersville Carpet until it closed and then by Triple A Carpet in Winston-Salem. He loved watching his grandson play softball and enjoyed baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves and the NC Tarheels. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Horton. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Tex Horton of the home; one daughter, Deboranell Smith of Winston-Salem; one son, Owen Troy Horton, Jr. and wife, Cathy of Raleigh; one sister-in-law, Priscilla Horton of Mt. Airy; four grandchildren, Hannah Bower and husband, Mike, Adam Smith and wife, Rachael, Cyrus Horton and wife, Kristina and Katy Parker and husband, Dave; three great grandchildren, Isabelle Bower , Brady Smith and Barrett Smith; and a host of loving nieces and nephews in North Carolina and Texas. A Memorial Mass will be Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church with Friar Bill Roberson officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, February 14, 2014 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Kate B.
