Pastor Sears

"Love sought me, mercy found me, the grace of Jesus has set me free. Redeemed! I have enjoyed proclaiming the truth of the gospel for 41 years. What a wonderful journey!" - Pastor Ed Sears
Ed was preceded in death by his father Edgar Bane Sears and his mother Alma Eulala Burrus. Born and bred a country boy from East Bend, NC, he graduated from East Bend High School in 1964 and then attended East Carolina University. He was employed by McLean Trucking Company for 10 years, rising to the level of Assistant Director of Transportation for the Southern Division. After a joyous and wonderful conversion to Christianity, he was called into ministry and attended Tennessee Temple University where he graduated Suma Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology. From 1977 - 1981, Ed pastored Mount Bethel Baptist Church in East Bend, NC. In March of 1981, he was called to Grace Baptist Church as Senior Pastor for 37 years. Besides his pastoral duties, he served on the Board of Directors for Baptist World Missionary Outreach, Baptist Mid Missions, Cleveland, OH, Saulnier Roberson Prison Ministry, Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, and Piedmont International University. He also served on the Advisory Council for Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, FL. Ed also volunteered as a chaplain for Forsyth County Sherriff's Department, Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home and our local hospitals. He traveled abroad speaking in conferences in Alaska, Brazil, Israel, Malta and Thailand. Under his leadership, a church was built in Bangladesh and the Bible was translated for the first time for a tribal group in India. He is survived by the love of his life, Linda Day Sears, whom he was married to for 51 years; three daughters, Kelly Walker (Mark, U.S. Congressman) of Greensboro, Millicent West (Chuck) of Lexington, and Heather Perkins (Aaron) of Clemmons; and eight wonderful grandchildren, Ryan, Rachel and Anna Claire Walker; Jessica, Madelyn and Gracie West; and Ramsey and Harrison Perkins. A service to celebrate Ed's life will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Grace Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:30 pm prior to the service at the church. A private graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 3305 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27127. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Pastor Sears.
