Patricia Ann Bolin Wooten

Mrs. Patricia Ann (Bolin) Wooten, 90, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at her residence in Winston-Salem, NC, surrounded by her family.  Patsy was born in Memphis, TN, on February 1, 1933, to the late Walter and Jimmie Bolin. Patsy married the love of her life, Raleigh Wooten, in Whitehaven, TN.  She attended college at the University of Tennessee at Martin and Freed-Hardeman College in Hendersonville, TN., and supported her husband’s ministry for several years in Middle Tennessee.

In 1966, Patsy and her family moved to Chattanooga, TN. For the next 55 years, she, along with her devoted husband, served the Church of Christ congregations of Eastdale, Ridgeside, Northside, Ware Branch, Brainerd, and East Brainerd. Their combined service to congregations, compassion for others, and overall selflessness in their lives, demonstrated what it meant to be a servant of God for many individuals and families.

Patsy was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, and friend to many people. She held several jobs throughout her life in different roles, but she preferred to do volunteer work at the churches and in the communities in which she resided. One of her great passions was to do goodwill work at local hospitals in Chattanooga with her dear friend Betty Ulrey. Wearing custom-made panda bear costumes, they would regularly visit sick children to bring smiles to their faces and emotional support during their time of illness. Their personal ministry carried on for almost 20 years, and they became familiar panda bears in many hospital halls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raleigh; son, Bill (Susan (still living)); and sister, Norma (Bolin) Roop. Patsy is survived by her sister, Kay (Bolin) Rylee of Memphis, TN; daughters, Brenda (Philip) Murray of North Carolina, and Barbara (Jeff) Trinh of North Carolina; sons, Brent (Susan) Wooten of Maine, and Bryan (Ubeny) Wooten of Colombia, SA; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date for family and friends in Winston-Salem, NC. There will be no burial since she and her husband, Raleigh, in their last act of service and giving, donated their bodies to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville for medical research. Please share your thoughts and memories here in her Guestbook.

In lieu of flowers please feel free to make a donation in Patsy Wooten’s name to World Relief Ministries of the Triad, 102 W 3rd St. Suite 315, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
