Patsy Ruth Sisk Freeman

Patsy Ruth Sisk Freeman, 85, of Winston-Salem, widow of Edward Glenn ""Snookie"" Freeman passed away 16 January 2015. She was born in Winston-Salem 10 November 1929 to the late James Alexander and Mattie Mae Bishop Sisk. She spent most of her life in Winston-Salem and attended White Rock School in Walkertown. She moved with her family to Los Angeles, CA in 1942 where she graduated from Manual Arts High School. While still in high school she began work in radio broadcasting which eventually led her to sign a professional entertainment contract with MGM studios. Her career included work with Hoagy Carmichael and club engagements at the Coconut Grove ballroom in Los Angeles where she sang with the big bands of the time including those led by Tommy Dorsey and her favorite, Harry James. While performing there she was ""noticed"" by Frank Sinatra who arranged for her to record in his studio to further her professional career. Her professional aspirations ended with her family's decision to return to North Carolina after her high school graduation in 1947. After marrying her life partner ""Snookie"" in 1950, she became a homemaker in Winston-Salem and a life-long member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Walkertown. Surviving are her much loved family: three sons, Brad (Susan) of Rural Hall, Lindy (Lisa) of Melbourne FL, and Jody (Brenda) of Rural Hall. Also surviving are six grandsons - Chris, Alex, Elliott, Josh (Tasha), Joey (Stephanie), and Matthew. A funeral service will be conducted twelve o'clock noon, Monday, January 19th at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church on Old Walkertown Rd. with the Rev. Richard Buffkin officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from five to seven p.m. Sunday, January 18th at Haworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers, Patsy requested prayers for the family and friends or memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. The family would also like to express extreme gratitude to the Oak Forest staff, especially Tina and Cacky, for their extraordinary care over the last four years.
