Mrs. Patsy Bates Linville, 79, passed away Monday, April 15, 2019 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Surry Co. on August 9, 1939 the daughter of the late Cotis Bates and Lovora Corder Bates. Patsy excelled in school and was an excellent speller, winning the NC Spelling Bee and then finished 9th in the nation. She attended Beck’s Baptist Church in Winston-Salem for many years and she loved her church family. Patsy was an important part of American Sign Shop, where she did their bookkeeping and prepared financials as long as her health permitted. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Olin Howard Linville; and two sisters, Faye Hyatt and Carolyn Bates. She is survived by her son, Michael Linville of Greensboro; a niece, Sharon Simon of Clemmons and a great-niece, Nicole Simon of Clemmons. She is also survived by her canine companion, Logan. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Beck’s Baptist Church with Rev. T.J. Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00 prior to the service at Beck’s Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beck’s Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
