Pearl Mcgee

Pearl Elizabeth Gray McGee, age 95, passed away peacefully with her son at her side on January 31st, 2019. She was born on October 13, 1923 in Kernersville, North Carolina, as the oldest sibling to the late Joe and Lena Gray. Her husband, Wayne McGee preceded her in death in the year of 1996.  They had celebrated over 50 wonderful and joyful years together.  She was a lifelong member of Union Grove Baptist Church.

Pearl enjoyed cooking and she shared this love with many in the community.  Her specialty was homemade yeast rolls and strawberry jelly. Both of them became a staple on the table at every family gathering.

Left to cherish her memory is her son Gerald McGee, his wife, Debra and her three grand daughters, Kendele, Sarah and Lydia McGee.

Pearl was especially fond of her nieces Cheryl (Dennis) Gravley and Susan (Darrell) Gravley and her nephews, Joe Ray Hawkins and Richard Gray. Their children, Amber and Ryan Gravley,  Justin and Kali Hawkins and Coy Gray held a special place in her heart as well.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Union Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Wesleyan Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel and at other times at her residence of 9156 County Line Road in Kernersville.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Land Purchase Fund of Union Grove Baptist Church, 5424 Union Grove Road, Oak Ridge, NC  27310 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
