Peggy Lewis Bodenhamer passed away on February 12, 2013 in Atlanta, GA. She was born in Winston-Salem on April 1, 1930 to Moncie Flynn and L. Smith Lewis, Sr. Peggy was a 1948 graduate of Hanes High School in Winston-Salem, NC and in 1953 married David L. Bodenhamer, a Hanes High classmate. In 1954 she joined David, who was in the U.S. Army, in Stuttgart, Germany, sharing an apartment with a German family for four months. She lived in Winston-Salem until 1959, Charlotte NC 1959-1968, Winston-Salem 1968-1977, Washington, DC 1977-1983, and Atlanta since 1983. The moves were related to her husband's career with Ernst & Young where he was Managing Partner of the Winston-Salem and Washington offices, and the Southeast Region in Atlanta, retiring as a Vice Chairman of the firm in 1990. Peggy made friends easily and participated in many community activities in the cities where she lived. She was a golfer and eagerly looked forward to attending the Masters Tournament each year. She loved the outdoors and spent a number of weeks each year at her beach home in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. A very adventurous person, she enjoyed traveling in foreign countries and within the USA. Her family was a great joy to her, particularly grandson William's visit to Atlanta each summer. She is survived by her husband, David L. Bodenhamer (Atlanta); son, David L. Bodenhamer, Jr. and wife, Doris; two grandsons, William and Michael Bodenhamer; sister-in-law, Ramona Lewis; brother-in-law, Thomas K. Hagood (Winston-Salem); and sister, Marilyn Stevens (Wilson, NC). A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2013 at Forsyth Memorial Park with the Rev. Clyde Godwin officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, February 17 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
