Peggy Wallace Costner

Peggy Joan Wallace Costner, 85, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her daughter Robin, with her granddaughter Georgia and great-granddaughter Tori by her side, on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, in Boone. Peggy was born Sept. 15, 1930, in Cleveland County, to Hugh and Vashti Wallace, and grew up in Lawndale, N.C. She was a graduate of Piedmont High School, and attended Draughon's Business College. Following graduation, Peggy took a job with the FBI in Washington, D.C., before eventually returning to North Carolina to marry Bob, her husband of 56 years, and start raising a family. After moving to Winston-Salem in 1960, the Costners ran Trash and Treasures Antiques for a number of years, with Peggy handling the day to day operations of the business. Like Bob, Peggy enjoyed traveling, crossing the country by motorhome, along with trips to Alaska and Central America after retirement, and winters in Florida. A gentle and loving woman, Peggy was proudest of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved spending time with them, during frequent family get-togethers at Long Beach and elsewhere. She delighted in trips to New York with her daughter Robin and her granddaughters. Peggy was proud of her Wallace heritage and visited her ancestral home of Scotland with her daughter Melony and her family. She is survived by her children and their families; her daughter Dr. Robin Ray, husband Tony, grandchildren Georgia, Cara and Michael, and great-granddaughters Tori and Reagan, who cared for her in her later years; her son Bob, wife Lisa and grandson Sean; and her daughter Melony, husband Terry, grandchildren Meredith and Christopher. Peggy is also survived by her brother Richard Wallace and his wife Toni. A service celebrating Peggy's life will be held Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillsdale United Methodist Church in Advance, N.C. The family will receive friends after the service. A graveside service will be held Sunday, Feb. 28, at 3:30 p.m. at Palm Tree Methodist Church in Lawndale, the family will receive friends afterwards at the Family Life Center.
