Peggy Dunevant

Ms. Peggy Lou Dunevant, 87, of Winston-Salem, entered the more immediate presence of her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 14, 2019. She was born on January 31, 1932 in Burke County, NC to Johnsie and Glenn Abernathy. Peggy was married to James Dunevant for 25 years and they raised their son Dana. She went to beauty school in Charlotte and then worked part of her life as a beautician. Peggy had a passion for interior design, and spent many years designing furniture for Idlewild Design. She was extraordinary at her craft. Peggy was also a phenomenal seamstress and designed clothing for family and friends. One of her son’s most treasured gifts was a wedding dress Peggy created for his wife, Denise. Peggy received her nursing degree from Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem, and then she practiced nursing for 6 years at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center until she retired. After retirement, Peggy helped raise her grandchildren, Austin and Samantha, training them up to be stewards of Christ. Peggy was a volunteer for her church, Advent Moravian where she dedicated much of her time to women’s fellowship and teaching bible studies. She was an adventurous, kind, giving, faithful woman. Peggy loved life to its fullest and served others to the end. In her final months, she spent a lot of time with her new great granddaughter, Kylie. Kylie was, and will always be, Peggy’s precious.

Preceding her in death are her parents; a brother, Johnny “Buddy” Abernathy; and a brother-in-law Gerald Childers. Surviving are a son, Dana and wife Denise; two grandchildren, Samantha (Austin Boles) and Austin (Mary Jarvis); a great-granddaughter, Kylie Sophia Boles; two sisters, Sue Chapman and Gail Childers; a brother, Gary “Sonny” Abernathy; two sisters-in-law, Celia Abernathy and Brenda Abernathy; and many loving nieces and nephews.

We will always carry the memory of Peggy in our hearts. We pray that she is celebrating with her Almighty Father.

A celebration of life service will be conducted in her honor 11:00 AM Monday, June 17, 2019, at Advent Moravian Church, officiated by Rev. Tim Sapp. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family would like to specially thank the staff of Kernersville and Forsyth Novant Medical Centers for their loving and compassionate care.
