Peggy King Gimmon passed away May 15, 2019 at Bermuda Commons Nursing & Rehab Center in Clemmons after a brief stay there. She had been in declining health for several years. She was born in Burke County, NC on January 22, 1929 to Calvin H. and Neva Crews King and lived most of her life in Winston-Salem. Peggy graduated from James A. Gray High School in 1948 and was employed at Western Electric for over 30 years before retiring in 1983. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers and volunteered at Contact Teleministries for a number of years. Peggy was a member of Ardmore Moravian Church and was active as long as her health allowed. She volunteered in the church’s Transportation and Guest House ministries and especially enjoyed working with the children at the annual Ardmore Candle Tea as well. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Richard W. Gimmon, and two brothers, H. Lee King of Winston-Salem and Paul H. King of Maryland. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley H. Womack (Bill) of Wallburg, NC and son, Gene Hunter (Laura) of Wesley Chapel, NC. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Melissa Webb (Josh) and David Womack (Christie), both of Wallburg, Cason Treharn (Tim) of Indian Land, SC, Christopher Hunter of Monroe, NC, Sarah Hunter and Kate Hunter, both of Wesley Chapel; and seven great-grandchildren: Ian, Nora and Claire Womack, Lucy and Sawyer Webb, and Bennett and Brigman Treharn. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 19 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Arkon Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at God’s Acre in Old Salem. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ardmore Moravian Church, 2013 West Academy Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to a charity of the donor’s choice. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Walnut Ridge Assisted Living in Walnut Cove for the excellent care Peggy received for over 2-1/2 years. They made sure she always felt at home there.
