Phyllis June Parris Crater

Mrs. Phyllis June Parris Crater, 86, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, following a long battle with dementia.

She was born on May 4, 1940, in Jackson County, North Carolina to the late Mrs. Frankie Montez Taylor. Phyllis attended Beaver Creek High School and graduated in 1958. Following graduation, she moved to Winston-Salem and began to work at the Chuck Wagon Restaurant.

Known for her strong work ethic, she devoted her life to providing for her family. She worked as a waitress at the Chuck Wagon in 1965, serving there until the restaurant closed its doors in 1996. While employed there, she also worked part-time at Lowe's Hardware. After the restaurant closed, she joined Lowe's full-time, where she remained until her retirement in 2020, when her health no longer allowed her to continue working.

She enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves, spending time with her family, and worshipping with her church family at Heaven View Tabernacle, where she remained a faithful member until her health declined.

Mrs. Crater was a devoted wife, mother, grandmama, and great-grandmama whose love and dedication to her family will never be forgotten. Her memory will be remembered by those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in passing by her stepfather, Joseph Taylor; husband of 52 years, Donald Sides Crater; a brother and three sisters.

Surviving are her two sons, Ross Crater and Joey Crater; three grandchildren, Dayna Jo Crater, Stephanie Eller and Ashlyn Cates; four great grandchildren, Rowan Jarvis, Bodhi Jarvis, Cavan Jarvis and Hollis Jarvis; a brother, Jerry Parris; a sister, Clara Redden; and several extended family members.
