Phyllis “JoAnn” McMullen Suttles, 93, of Winston-Salem, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born on September 23, 1930, to William Franklyn and Verlie Mae Wells McMullen in Cincinnati, Ohio. She spent her early life in Covington, Kentucky where she graduated from Covington Holmes High School with the class of 1948, while being an honor student, in marching band, numerous other activities. She attended the University of Cincinnati but was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan as well as a fan of the Cincinnati Reds Baseball team. She was employed by American Airlines until the arrival of her children whom she chose to stay home with. She was married in 1952 to her husband of sixty-five years, Dr. Donald Roland Suttles, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Covington, Kentucky by Dr. D. B. Eastep. Mitchell, KY. and Winston-Salem, NC. for many years being a second mother/grandmother figure to scores of young children. She enjoyed genealogy, doing research in the library, visiting different states, and researching her family tree on her computer. Scrapbooking and cataloging her many pictures were also a favorite hobby, as she took many pictures at all the family and friend gatherings over the years. Being a wife, mother, grandmother, and Great-Grandmother was her greatest joy and pride, affectionately being called grandma and GG. She was a member of the Battle of Shallow Ford of the Daughters of The American Revolution, as well as The Daughters of The Union Army, and was an auxiliary member of the Winston-Salem chapter of Gideons international.
