BROOKS Mr. Pleasant Asbury Brooks, Jr. passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born November 26, 1925 in Lewisville, NC to Pleasant Asbury Brooks, Sr. and Viola Binkley Brooks. He graduated from Lewisville High School in 1942. Mr. Brooks served his country in the US Marine Corp during WWII, surviving the Battle of Iwo Jima and The Occupation of Japan. He retired from Western Electric after 35 years of service. Mr. Brooks was a member of Masonic Lodge Piedmont-Pioneer 685. During his life he passionately pursued his many hobbies of cooking (much to the delight of his family), stamp collecting, record collecting, gardening and having the greenest yard in the neighborhood. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 61 years, Betty Fulp Brooks in addition to, his daughter-in-law, Sandi Smith Brooks and son-in-law, Mark Toomey. Survivors include son, Wes Brooks (Debbie) and daughter Cathy B. Toomey of Winston-Salem and son Barry Brooks of Kernersville; five grandchildren, Kenneth and Elizabeth Brooks, Travis Toomey and Alia and Emily Brooks; his loving dog, Maggie and special friend and caregiver, Beth Dunn. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Frank Smith and Rev. Belinda Smith officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 pm until 1:00 pm. A military graveside service will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
