Mrs. Polly Sue Plaster Southern, of Winston-Salem, passed away February 28, 2014. She was born September 16, 1934 in Forsyth County to Inez Magdalene Simmons Plaster and Robert ""Powell"" Plaster. Polly was the life and spirit of her family, even after losing the love of her life, and our father Joel Southern on December 22, 2011. Polly graduated from Mineral Springs High School in 1953. She worked for Western Electric for 37 years, retiring in 1990 from Lucent Technologies as an Editor. Polly had a great sense of style and a great sense of humor. She had many friends and cherished each one, but her best friend was her sister, Barbara Tesh whom she spoke with every morning at 9:00 AM.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Polly was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Heather Danon Dunn; and brother, Billy P. Plaster. Surviving are her sister, Barbara Tesh; daughters: Beth Southern Wolfington (Kim), Kristi Bowen, and Marty Southern; her grandchildren: Matt (Jessica) Dunn, Kristen Jones Eldridge, Katelyn Longworth and Kane Bowen; her great-grandchildren: Cameron Pack, Blake Loy, Piper and Paxton Dunn, Delilah Meredith, Finnley Longworth; three special nieces: Cynthia and Jane Tesh and Karen Southern; and two very special friends, Keith and Trevor Robertson who called her Polly Sue. We'll miss you Mama!
A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with the Rev. John Jackman officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Forsyth Humane Society, 61 Miller Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
