Polly Reece Voegele, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Monroe, North Carolina, surrounded by family, on Friday, January 9, 2026, at home in Monroe, NC. She was born May 11, 1929, in East Bend, North Carolina, to the late Bulen and Dixie Reece.
In addition to her parents, Polly was preceded in death by her husband, her two brothers, and her five sisters.
She is survived by her sister, Pat Stump; her son, Robert Voegele, Jr., and his wife Marci of Monroe, NC; her daughter, Patricia V. Phelps and her partner, Pamela Morris of Bethesda, MD; four grandchildren, Robert Louis Voegele III and his wife Lindsay of Fort Mill, SC, Brenton Voegele of Lake Park, NC, Cameron Voegele and his wife Casey Voegele of Charlotte, NC, and Emily Phelps Smith and her Husband Andrew Smith of Chapel Hill, NC. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren Elliot Voegele and Lila James Voegele, two sisters-in-law, Wanda Voegele of Newkirk, OK, and Sherrie Voegele of Fayette, AL; and many beloved nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and were dearly loved in return. Her loyal schnauzer, Peanut, was a constant companion and could often be found by her side as she watched television in her later years.
While living in Winston-Salem, Polly worked at Wachovia Bank and was a member of Wesley United Memorial Church. She and her husband enjoyed spending time with family and friends both at home and on their farm in Sparta, North Carolina. Polly delighted in meeting new people, watching her favorite soap operas, and, most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a deep love for genealogy, spending countless hours researching her family’s ancestry and lovingly creating books to preserve and share that history with her family members.
Polly never had a bad word to say about anyone and will be remembered for her quick wit, gentle heart, and the kindness she so freely gave to everyone around her.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Hayworth-Miller Lewisville location, with Rev. Brian Edmonds officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Assist ME of NC or Council on Aging in Union County. Those wishing to sign Polly's guestbook may do so at www.hayworth-miller.com
