Rachel Shaver Long Mcknight

Kernersville – Mrs. Rachel Shaver Long McKnight, 97, passed away peacefully at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Forsyth County on December 8, 1927, to the late Carlie Shaver and Eva Ruth Heitman Shaver. Rachel loved needlepoint, puzzles, and playing the piano. She sang in the choir at church and liked to travel, sometimes by herself. She was strong in her faith; her faith was what got her through everything in life.

Rachel was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Grady Long, and her 2nd Ernest McKnight, one son, Douglas Long, one grandson, Brian Long, five sisters, Ruby Newsome, Pansy Swing, Edna Temples, Vivian Rothrock and Evelyn Jahn.

Left to cherish her memory are three sons Duane Long (Diane), Dennis Long (Wanda), and Tim Long (Dana), a daughter in law, Patti Long, six grandchildren Monte Long, David Long, Kellie Long, Ollie Long, Jaclyn Talbert, Joni Strunk, 17 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Main Street Baptist Church in her memory at 126 North Main Street Kernersville, NC 27284.
