Rachel Frances Spainhour

Rachel Frances Shoaf Spainhour, 93, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on October 23, 1923 to Eva Irene Fulk Shoaf and William Franklin Shoaf, Sr. in Forsyth County. Rachel graduated from Reynolds High School. She was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities including Sunday School Teacher and Choir Member. She loved being in the mountains and enjoyed camping. She was a people-person who treasured visits from friends. Most of all, she loved to be in the company of family, doing the day-to-day tasks together. Rachel will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Lincoln, William Shoaf, Jr., Charles Shoaf, Marshall Shoaf; as well as her husband of 59 years, Richard Francis Spainhour. Surviving are her daughter, Gail Spainhour Hooks; Grandchildren, Blake Hooks (Ashley) and April Allman (Ron); great grandchildren, Ben, Carly, and Carter; nephew, A.J. Lincoln; as well as numerous extended family members. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, July 7, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Blake Hooks officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
