Ralph Edwin Barrow, Sr.

LEXINGTON, NC--Ralph E. Barrow, Sr., 93, of Lexington, NC, passed away on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2013, a few days short of his 94th birthday. He was born on July 23, 1919 in Forsyth County to Lillie Martin and Thomas Ruffin Barrow. He was the youngest of 14 children. His mother died when he was five months old, and he was then raised with the help of his older brothers and sisters while his father supported the large family. Ralph served in the U.S. Army during World War II, Feb. 1941 to Oct. 1945 at the rank of 1st Sergeant. His membership at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church spanned seven decades. He retired from Container Corporation of America after many years of service, and he was an avid surf fisherman. His loving wife of 61 years, Virginia M. Young Barrow, preceded him in death on May 3rd, 2003. Ralph is survived by two sons, Ralph E. Barrow, Jr. and his wife Molly and Stephen T. Barrow; grandsons, Joseph Barrow and his wife Bobbi, Jeremy Markham, Michael Barrow, John Barrow, and Christian Williams; great-grandchildren, Joe Barrow, Jr., Lilly Barrow, and Kayla Patterson; several nieces and nephews and other extended family. Funeral services for Mr. Barrow will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Mark Key officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, 3543 Robinhood Road, in Winston-Salem.
