Robert Randolph Bruce, Jr., known to all as “Randy”, 68, died Sunday, May 3, 2026 at his home in Rural Hall. Randy was born in Pulaski County, Virginia to the late Robert Randolph “Bob” Bruce and June Elizabeth Sheets Bruce, who survives. He was an Eagle Scout and was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Western Carolina University (WCU), where he was awarded a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of WCU’s Catamount Club, which provides scholarship assistance to WCU student athletes. Sports were always important in Randy’s life. He had been a coach in the North Forsyth Little League, influencing the lives of many young aspiring athletes, and had served as Vice-President of its Board of Directors. He was a devoted Carolina Panthers fan, and, aside from sports, he loved model trains. He retired as plant manager from Taylor Brother’s Tobacco Company after a successful career, then later retired from Farm Bureau after many years in insurance sales. He was also a familiar face at Wake Forest sporting events and at The Dash, where he assisted with security through the Rhino Security Company. Randy was a faithful member of Rural Hall Moravian Church, where, for many years, he served as Assistant Head Usher. He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Bruce, and a cousin, Virginia State Trooper Ricky M. McCoy. He is survived by his beloved mother, June Sheets Bruce, of the home; sons Erik Bruce (wife Carrie, children Autumn and Everett) and Logan Bruce, all of Dobson; and brother Tony Bruce (wife, Lisa) of Pfafftown. The family will receive friends 10:30 AM, Friday, May 8, 2026 at Rural Hall Moravian Church, 7939 Broad Street, Rural Hall, NC. Private burial will be at Crestview Memorial Park at a later time. Memorials be made to Rural Hall Moravian Church, PO Box 487, Rural Hall, NC 27045. “Jesus makes my heart rejoice. I’m His sheep and know His voice …. Constant love to me He shows. Yea, my very name He knows.” (Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel)
