Mr. Lacy “Ray” Watson, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born on January 14, 1954, to the late Lacy and Lizzie Watson. Born the youngest of 8 children, the “baby brother” was the apple of his family’s eye. A man with an incredible work ethic, Ray managed Constan Car Wash for many years and was the best car detailer around! He also worked at Graylyn Conference Center for 30 years, winning employee of the year in 2009, and most recently, a beloved employee of Chick-Fil-A of Stanleyville. Ray was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Stanleyville, where he sang in the choir and participated in the Baptist Mission Group. He loved his family, his church, music and muscle cars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Watson and his siblings, Opal Gwyn, Vertie Ball, Jack Watson and Norma Lee Busick. Ray is survived by his daughter, Jen and wife, Jennifer Martin of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Eliza Watson Martin; his siblings, Bill Watson, Irene Thompson and Joanne Slate; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Dr. Virgil Dwyer officiating. Private interment will follow. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday evening, September 4, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. The family would like to thank Novant Medical Center and Hospice and Palliative Care for the compassionate care shown to Ray. In lieu of flowers memorials may be to St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
