Reavis Devon Pete" Marshall

Colfax - Reavis Devon ""Pete"" Marshall, 80 passed away Monday, August 18, 2008 at his home. He was born April 24, 1928 in Guilford Co. to the late Glenn R. and Mary Long Marshall. Mr. Marshall retired from Shell Oil Company after 35 years of employment. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. Pete was a member of Colfax Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. He also sang with the Sugar Sticks. Pete played professional baseball with the Braves organization. He loved to golf, fish and garden. Surviving are his wife, Elsie Young Marshall of the home; a son, R.D. Marshall, Jr. and wife Kempy of Colfax; a daughter, Lisa McLaughlin and husband Doug of Greensboro; three brothers, Barney G. Marshall, Daniel R. Marshall, and Terry L. Marshall all of Colfax; three grandchildren, Melanie McLaughlin of Greensboro, Jordan and Jason Marshall of Colfax. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Colfax Baptist Church by the Rev. Beauford Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Wesleyan Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405, or Colfax Baptist Church, PO Box 68, Colfax, NC 27235 The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to hospice nurses; Cameo Porter, Swantina Little, and Debbie Garner for all the love and care given to Pete. Also, a special thank you, to Dr. James Granfortuna.
