Rebekah Anne “Becky” (Moore) Rhodes, 83, departed this life surrounded by her children, entering the presence of the Lord on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Born in Wilson, North Carolina, to Marion Butler Moore and Juanita Woodard on February 7th, 1943, Becky grew up in a home located on Atlantic Christian (now Barton) College. In 1959, she went to Pineland Junior College in Salemburg, North Carolina. It was there she met the man she would call her partner, best friend, and true love, Eddie Rhodes. Shortly after graduating Pineland, where she was both Miss Pineland and valedictorian, they were married in Wilson in 1962 and spent the next 61 years together until his passing in 2023.
In 1976, Lieutenant Governor Jim Hunt, a proponent of education, proposed the Primary Reading Program where Becky was chosen as one of the first Reading Aides in New Hanover County. She spent the next 21 years at Sunset Park Elementary School, retiring from Coddington Elementary in 2003 as a Teaching Assistant. From that, she enjoyed a lifetime connection with many of her former students.
A life-long learner, she learned to line dance, read and speak Spanish, liked learning about other places and cultures, and into her eighties relished new experiences, including a newfound love of oysters and Scotch while never giving up her fondness for sweet tea and grits. Known as “Beck Beck” by grandchildren and friends, she was a loving and warm wife, mom, grandmother, and friend.
Along with her parents and husband, Becky was preceded in death by her brother, Marion “Monk” Moore. She is survived by her son, Ben Rhodes (Allison) of King, NC and their children Alex and William Rhodes, both of King; daughter, Robin Roberson (Dwight) of Falmouth, VA and their children, Hannah Haugen (fiancé Matt Coyne) of Hope Mills, and Abigail and Matthew Roberson of Spotsylvania, VA, Erik Haugen (fiancé, Kim Esquer) of Salt Lake City, Greta Roberson of Tübingen, Germany, and Erin Haugen of Philadelphia, PA; niece, Susan Moore; and nephew, Grey Moore.
The family wishes to extend their enduring thanks to the doctors, nurses, and providers of Wake Forest Baptist Hospital and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice (https://www.trellissupport.org/donate).
A memorial service will be held in Wilmington, NC, at a later date followed by interment in Proctorville Cemetery.
