It is with devastated hearts that we share the passing of Regina “Gina” Lynn Cavendish Calloway on August 12, 2025. Gina was born in Roanoke, Virginia, to Earl and Lucy Cavendish on October 18, 1963. While she grew up in Roanoke, she found her true hometown in King, NC, more than 35 years ago.
Gina was a civil servant in the truest sense. She worked tirelessly as both an employee and an advocate for the City of King for nearly 30 years. An eager problem solver, she was often called on—day or night—to answer questions and assure neighbors that help was on the way. Her unmatched determination and unwavering commitment to the parks, programs, and people of our town have left a lasting impression on us all.
Yet beyond her work, Gina’s greatest joy was her family and friends. She loved to shop, travel, and spend time at the beach and ball field. Outings with Gina often turned into “events”—memories we will forever talk about, laugh about, and hold close to our hearts. Her most treasured title was Gigi. She was her grandchildren’s biggest champion, always eager to share their milestones and proudly show their pictures to all who asked.
Gina’s parents predeceased her as well as her brother-in-law Tim Tuttle. She is survived by her husband, Mike; children Michela (Jon) Stevens and Ryan (Adrianna) Calloway; and grandchildren Maggie, Silas, and Miles Stevens, and Tatum and Tucker Calloway. Little Tucker arrived just one day after Gigi left us—reminding us that pure joy and deep sorrow can indeed coexist when we trust that God is holding us through it all. In addition, Gina leaves behind sisters-in-law Lydia (Jim) Blume, Deborah Tuttle, and Joy (Randy) Rutledge as well as a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews whom she spoiled and rescued on many occasions.
Our family is deeply grateful for the many friends, neighbors, and colleagues who have covered us in love during this difficult time.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Two Cities Church, Main Campus, 1001 North Patterson Ave, Winston-Salem, NC, 27101 with Pastor Jordan Taylor and Bro. Austin Needham officiating. Per the family request there will be no visitation.
